The challenge
Farmers walked to their paddy fields every morning and evening to check water levels. In the dry season, a missed check could mean a damaged crop.
Existing sensors were imported, expensive and needed Wi-Fi that rural fields don’t have.
Our solution
We designed an ESP32-based ultrasonic water-level sensor with a solar panel and battery, sealed in an IP65 enclosure. Readings travel over GSM, so no Wi-Fi is needed.
Farmers get an SMS when water drops below their chosen level, and can see history in a simple Sinhala mobile app.
